Exhibition Tour: CONCEPT
Wednesday 21 August 2019
6pm - 7pm
Conceptual Art, i.e. art that puts the artists' ideas before the physical manifestation of their works, has been celebrated as a liberation from form and criticised for its approach to aesthetics and the processes of making.
Yoko Ono has been at the vanguard of this movement since the early 1960s, well before conceptual artists were accepted by the art world and mainstream art enthusiasts. As an artist in New York who was associated with the 'anti-art' movement Fluxus and conceptual artists and musicians, Ono appeared on the art scene at a very critical time.
In this tour, we will attempt to put Yoko Ono's work in context and examine how it creates and defies categorisation.
