Downing College is delighted to announce that Professor John Richer, Fellow in Physics and Professor of Astrophysics, has been awarded a Pilkington Prize.

In order to raise the profile of teaching within the University, the Pilkington Prize is awarded to those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching and learning. Each year the prize is awarded to 12 members of staff who have achieved excellence in the field of teaching. The 2018 prize winners are listed here.

Professor Richer studies the physics of star formation, in particular the processes by which new planetary systems form in cold clouds of molecular gas in interstellar space.
