Celebration of the life of Dr Martin Mays
Friday 27 June, 10.30am-2.30pm
Alumni, friends and colleagues are invited to a special event to remember the life and contribution of Dr Martin Mays, Emeritus Fellow and former Vice Master, who died in June 2024.
Dr Mays first came to Downing as a Natural Sciences student, matriculating in 1957. He was a Fellow from 1965 to 2004 and held the roles of Admissions Tutor, Senior Tutor and Director of Studies in Chemistry during his time at the College.
This event will take place in College on Friday 27 June from 10.30am until 2.30pm (approximately). At 11am there will be a number of tributes and reminiscences in the Howard Theatre, followed by lunch. Guests are welcome to stay and enjoy the afternoon in College. If you would like to contribute to the reminiscences in the Howard Theatre, please let Professor Zoe Barber, Vice Master, know by Tuesday 6 May. Her email is zoe.barber@dow.cam.ac.uk.
A book of remembrance will be available for signing on the day.
Refreshments, including a buffet lunch (from 1pm), will be available in the Grace Howard Room. Booking is required to give an indication of numbers.
Space permitting, all those who wish to attend are warmly invited. Please note that numbers are limited and early booking is advised.
The presentations in the Howard Theatre will be recorded and made available for anyone unable to attend on the day.
Parking is very limited in College and can only be reserved for those who require a disabled parking space. If you have requested disabled parking, a named space will be reserved for you behind the Howard Building.
