Celebrating our donors – Downing's new Wilkins Fellows
In recognition of their generosity to Downing, Philippa Dodds John and Andy Phillipps (1987) have been elected Wilkins Fellows of the College.
Philippa Dodds John
Philippa, along with her husband Robert John (1968) generously established the Angharad Dodds John Fund in 2012 in memory of their daughter, Angharad. The fund supports a Fellowship in Mental Health and Neuropsychiatry and, since 2016, subsequent gifts have supported annual bursaries to graduate students in the same discipline.
She said: “It has been deeply satisfying to be part of the development of neuroscience and psychiatry as well as supporting the arts and student welfare services at the College. I am immensely honoured to become part of the Downing Family as a Wilkins Fellow.”
Andy Phillipps (1987)
Andy studied Natural Sciences at Downing and went on to forge a successful career in entrepreneurship.
Andy has supported Downing for several years, first providing a much-needed fund for PhD students facing financial difficulties and most recently significantly contributing to the creation of the new Centre for Better Futures.
“I am delighted to have welcomed Philippa and Andy to their Wilkins Fellowships in recognition of their long-standing and continuing support for the College, for which the Downing community is grateful,” said Professor Graham Virgo KC (Hon), Master.
