Downing celebrates another year of excellent exam results
Downing College has celebrated another year of outstanding academic achievement by its students at the annual Scholars’ Dinner.
This year 86 of our current students gained a First or Distinction in their exam results, 81 of whom became Scholars for the first time. In addition, 45 students also gained a First or Distinction before graduating from the College, with 30 becoming first-time Scholars.
Three students also topped their class-list Tripos, achieving the highest results in the entire University in their examinations.
Downing was ranked in the top third of Colleges once again for the proportion of students gaining first class grades.
Before celebrating over dinner, the Scholars gathered in the Assembly Room to sign the Scholars’ Book, in a ceremony presided over by the Master, Vice-Master, Senior Tutor and Praelector.
The Master, Professor Graham Virgo, said: “It was a genuine pleasure to meet our scholars and to celebrate with them on their exceptional academic results.”
Professor Guy Williams, Senior Tutor, said: “Academic excellence is at the heart of what we aspire to at Downing, and it is wonderful to celebrate so many of our students as Scholars. We are very proud of their attainment and greatly respect the effort that they all put into the examinations last year.”
Everyone at Downing College offers sincere congratulations to all our Scholars. We are incredibly proud of your achievements.
