Enduring connections: Downing alums fund class gift for future student
Downing alums demonstrated the power of collective giving recently by raising over £4,300 - enough to fund a full one-year bursary for a new Downing student matriculating in October 2025.
The gifts were all made as part of the College’s Annual Reunion Dinner celebrations, which saw alums who matriculated in a year ending in a ‘5’ returning to College to celebrate their anniversaries and reunite with their contemporaries.
“These gifts demonstrate the enduring connection that our alumni have to Downing and it is heartening to see their commitment to supporting future generations. The Downing community is a generous one and I thank everyone who has contributed towards this bursary, which I know will make a real difference to the student who receives it.” said Professor Graham Virgo KC (Hon), Master.
Over 160 alums returned to Downing for the recent Annual Reunion Dinner celebrations, making it one of the busiest reunion events to be held over recent years.
Richard Amos (1985), who attended the dinner and contributed to the bursary, said: “I gained significant benefits from my time at Downing. The bursary support scheme is a great way of allowing those who might struggle otherwise to access similar opportunities, so I am delighted to support it.”
