Research Interests

After graduating from Downing with a degree in Natural Sciences, I worked at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in public engagement and science writing. Alongside, I supervised several Natural Sciences subjects including Biology of Cells and Cell and Developmental Biology, and have been an assessor for Natural Sciences Tripos exams. Within Downing I offer study skills support to individuals and groups of students studying biological science subjects. This includes running seminars on essay writing for Part I and Part II, and small-group sessions on reading scientific papers. Alongside, I have also taught on the Pre-Medical Studies course at the University's Institute of Continuing Education. I have recently completed a PhD at the Department of Physiology, Development & Neuroscience, with my research looking at the role of adhesion proteins in intestinal stem cells, using Drosophila as a model organism. My postdoctoral research will explore how efferocytosis, the process of clearing apoptotic material, influences the behaviour of macrophages, important cells of the immune system.
