As well as running the Chapel, I’m here to provide pastoral care and support for all members of Downing College, whether they are religious or not.

I’m a good listener; you can talk to me completely confidentially about anything, including problems of any kind, and I won’t start preaching unless you ask me to! I would also be delighted to discuss issues of faith and spirituality with those who have questions, and I can assist any who are interested in being baptised or confirmed.

My other interests include astronomy, so I run occasional observing sessions for people who want to learn to use the college telescope. You’re always very welcome to visit me in my study, O8, where I have a limitless supply of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits. I live in a village outside Cambridge with my wife Mel, but I am usually in college on weekdays from 10 am until the evening. You can also phone me on 01223 334 810, or email me.

I spend three-quarters of my time working for Downing College as its Chaplain. I am also the Director of Studies for Theology and Religious Studies and do some teaching for undergraduates. From 2004-2009, I carried out part-time research for my PhD on Karl Barth's interpretation of John's Gospel.

My continuing research interests include the relationships between academic theology and the life of the church, and between theology and other subjects, especially the sciences. I'm now also responsible for the redevelopment and maintenance of this website.

Some of my recent talks and sermons can be found on my own website.
