The Maitland Robinson Library

The Maitland Robinson Library is dedicated to Downing’s mission: the pursuit of academic excellence. It is open to current members of the College at all times: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The library collection is curated to offer the greatest help to Downing students, reflecting reading requirements across all courses and disciplines. New books are bought in throughout the year to fulfil reading lists, respond to reader requests, and ensure the needs of library users are met.

Library staff are very happy to help members of the College to find and borrow library books. Scheduled library inductions are offered at the start of each academic year, and ad hoc introductions to the library are available year-round – please speak to library staff.

For more information please see the Maitland Robinson Library homepage.

The library also hosts the Downing College Archive. Display cases on the ground floor of the library hold changing exhibitions of materials from the archives, curated by the College Archivist.
