Tab Media announce £4.5 million investment

Tab Media, publishers of the Student newspaper The Tab, announced today that News Corp is the main investor of £4.5 million ($6 million) of new funding raised.

The Tab newspaper was founded in 2009 by Downing undergraduates Jack Rivlin (SPS:  2007) and George Marangos-Gilks (SPS + Management Studies:  2007), and fellow Cambridge student Taymoor Atighetchi.  The Tab’s name is a play on “tabloid” and “Cantab”.  From 2012, The Tab expanded to twelve other British universities, and in 2015 they opened the Brooklyn bureau to establish The Tab US.

Today's announcement was featured as an exclusive in The New York Times, with Tab Media described "as a generation-defining brand à la MTV."

The Tab newspaper won our annual Downing Enterprise competition, receiving their prize funds in 2013, and the College is pleased to have played a part in the company's development.
