New Wellbeing Centre opens at Downing

On Monday 10 October, Downing opened its new Wellbeing Centre, coinciding with World Mental Health Day 2022. The new Centre will be a hub for promoting and supporting student mental health, as well as home to a newly expanded team of wellbeing practitioners.

Downing’s wellbeing service for students is delivered by a Head of Student Wellbeing, a newly appointed Student Wellbeing Advisor and two College Nurses. The service aims to support, improve and protect students’ wellbeing by promoting positive physical, mental and community health, offering physical and mental health advice, guidance and signposting and hosting wellbeing events and activities.

Dr Kate Daniels, Head of Student Wellbeing, said: "At Downing, we want all our students to feel good, function well and flourish. College has shown that it is dedicated to making this happen – it has invested in its wellbeing service and is now opening this Wellbeing Centre, which offers students a calm and welcoming space and is, importantly, fully accessible.

I’m incredibly proud of all Downing has done to support, improve and protect the wellbeing of its students and, with the rest of the team, look forward to championing better wellbeing for all."

The Master, Alan Bookbinder said: “Bringing our student wellbeing team together in one dedicated space allows the college to provide effective and timely support to students. It demonstrates Downing’s abiding commitment to ensuring their robust mental and physical health.”
