The Heong Gallery

Downing is uniquely fortunate to house the Heong Gallery, an art gallery dedicated to enhancing students’ engagement with modern and contemporary visual art.

Since it opened in 2016, the Gallery has exhibited works some of the world’s most famous living artists including Ai Wei Wei, Yoko Ono, Kip Gresham and Downing alumnus Quentin Blake. Alongside events featuring leading artists, curators and collectors, the Gallery also hosts a lively programme of student-led activities, including poetry readings and music performances, dance and drama presentations.

Art studio

Downing also has its own art studio for students in any discipline to draw, paint or create their own work. It’s equipped with easels, tables and basic art supplies, and you’re welcome to bring whatever else you need. The art studio is at the back of the Master’s Lodge, and there is no need to book in advance.
